Byron Marshall, NCTM
Title: Piano instructor and Community Music Academy Director at UNCW, Director of Music at Ogden Baptist Church, Adjunct Professor of Music at UNCW.
Byron Marshall is native of Franklin County, NC and is an alumnus of Louisburg College, and Cape Fear Community College with an A.F.A. degree in Music & Music Education and, a B.A. degree in piano & choral music from The University of North Carolina Wilmington, and a Master of Music Education at the University of Florida. Currently, Byron is a Doctor of Music Education candidate at Liberty University and is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano with Music Teachers National Association. Some of Byron’s extensive resume includes work in the music department of Louisburg College as faculty accompanist from 2002-2009, and service as an Executive Board of Directors member of the Franklin County Art’s Council from 2000-2004. Byron travels throughout North Carolina and performs for collegiate, civic, and social events as well as a clinician and accompanist for choral events and festivals for North Carolina Public School Systems including 26 consecutive years with the Franklin Co. Schools All County Chorus Festival and 12 years with Brunswick County Schools All County Chorus Festival and 6 years with New Hanover Co. Schools All County Chorus Festival.
He is the recipient of numerous academic awards including “2004 Artist of the Year” award for service in the field of performing arts from the Franklin Co. Arts Council and several Distinguished Service awards from Louisburg College’s Department of Music. Byron is an active adjudicator at local, state and international level musical competitions.
Mr. Marshall is the minister of music and instructor for Ogden Baptist Church in Wilmington since 2006 and founded its Academy of Music in 2008; the Accompanist for the Wilmington Choral Society from 2007-2019 until his appointment to conductor in 2020-present. Byron also holds active memberships with Music Teachers National Association and Cape Fear Music Teachers Association where he has served as vice president and president since 2020. Mr. Marshall has also worked at Cape Fear Community College's Music Department as Collaborative Pianist for Applied Voice, Choral & Faculty performances and classes from 2013-2020, and also founded the first auditioned scholarship/internship program for music majors at CFCC and UNCW's Community Music Academy. Byron is also an adjunct faculty member at The University of North Carolina Wilmington where he serves as adjunct faculty and Director for the UNCW-Community Music Academy.
